Whitemary

Biancamaria Scoccia, aka Whitemary, got a late start with electronica: “Musically I am my boyfriend’s daughter. He was hooked on Ed Banger, and one day he got fed up and decided to let me hear Justice: specifically the track Stress. As you can imagine, that moment there was a trauma, that track was exactly the opposite of what I used to listen to. Slowly I started to get into that kind of music: until I realized that with electronics I would be able to express my full creative potential.”
His first approach, however, clubbing was quite bizarre: “You know, I was coming from L’Aquila, and there are very few discos there, and what little there is well … was really uninteresting. When I arrived in Rome, one of the first places I took to was Big Bang, in Testaccio. They regularly held goa trance parties there. Can you imagine? Out of nowhere I found myself in these underground, absurd raves, with music at 180 bpm, psychedelic installations, people taken well. I loved it!”
